Conclusion: Point calculation is easy if you think about it in 3 steps!

To calculate the score of mahjong, ① determine the number of established yaku and han/fu, ② ``fu × 2(han+2)” to calculate the basic points, 3. Calculate the payment amount according to the parent and child and ron/tsumo, and round up to the nearest 100 points. For Mankan or higher (5 han or higher or high fu), skip the fu calculation and use the fixed point quick reference table. For honba and riichi bars (deposit), it is smooth to add them after calculating the normal rising point.

Points calculation is done in 3 steps: ``Rising value, basic points, and payment amount.''

If you try to memorize the numbers on the score sheet from the beginning, parents and children, Ron, and Tsumo tend to panic. The shortest way is to first determine the value of the hand itself (han and fu), find the common basic point, and finally calculate by multiplying the number of people paying by the multiplier. If you are still unsure about the type of tiles or yaku, please read first.mahjong beginner courseLet's check the differences between four melds and one pair, yaku, and tsumo・ron.

  1. Determine the value of the prize:Check the arigata and established yaku, add dora and total the number of han. If it is less than mankan, add the fu of how to rise, meld, pair, and wait to the sub-bottom (basically 20 fu).
  2. Calculate basic points:Less than mankan is “fu × 2(han+2)” to calculate the basic points. If the basic points are 2,000 points or more or 5 han or more, the rules for Mankan or higher (Mankan, Jumpman, etc.) will be applied.
  3. Convert to payment amount:Guess whether it's parent or child, ron or tsumo, and round up to 100 points for each payer. After that, add the honba (stacked stick) and deposited (riichi stick).

Base point = fu × 2(han+2)

Child's ron: Basic points x 4 / Parent's ron: Basic points x 6

When leaving it in a memo or memo pad, it will be easier to check the calculation later if you write the condition and formula on one line, such as "Chi・ron|3han40fu|Basic points 1,280|1,280×4=5,120|Round up to 5,200 points."

yaku and han first confirm the establishment of yaku

After dividing the completed form into melds, first check if you can explain at least one yaku. Dora increases han, but dora alone cannot win. Count the established yaku such as riichi, tanyao, yakuhai, and then add dora, red dora, ura dora, etc. according to the adoption rules. The back dora is usually checked only during riichiwin, so avoid turning it over first.

We distinguish between yaku that is limited to closed hands, yaku that is valid even if you cry, and yaku that goes down by 1 han when you cry. For example, riichi and closed hand Kiyoshizuwa are exclusive to closed hand. Yakuhai is valid even if you use pon. There is a rule that the han number will decrease due to secondary dew for three colors in the same order or one color mixed. The number of han and calling conditions for each yaku areriichi mahjong's yaku listYou can check them individually.

Fix yaku confirmation order

Divide the hand and meld into four melds and one pairs and identify which pair the winning tile completes. Next, check the situation conditions such as closed hand or side dew, field wind/own wind, riichi, one shot, seabed, etc., and finally count the dora display tiles and red fives. If you do this in this order, you can reduce the chances of mistaking a dora for a yaku or leaving behind a yaku that cries and disappears.

fu is 20fu, add win method, meld, pair, wait

The general calculation method is to use 20fu as a sub-base, add up fu from the win method, triplet/quad, yakuhai pair, and waiting form, and then round up to the nearest 10fu. fu is not attached to sequence. The fu of meld increases in the following order: ``quad than triplet'', ``nixu tile than zhongzhang tile'', and ``dark tile than light time''.

win methodclosed handron10fu, tsumo2fuThere are exceptions such as peace tsumo.

If the total is 32fu, it is 40fu, and even if the total is 34fu, it is 40fu. A closed handron adds 10 fu to 20 fu, so it becomes 30 fu even if there is no other fu. There are some exceptional fixing procedures in the actual score table, such as treating the so-called Kuiheiwa-kata, which has a hand with side dew and no additions other than 20fu, as 30fu.

Typical exceptions to fu calculations

peace tsumois treated as 20fu without adding tsumo2fu in general calculations.seven pairs of childrenis fixed at 25fu and is not rounded up to the nearest 10fu. There are differences between named rule sets, such as whether to set the renpu tile pair to 2fu or 4fu, or whether to use round-up mankan, so the table's score table takes precedence.

Multiply the parent/child/rontsumo multiplier and round up each to the nearest 100 points.

loserron paymentpayment after tsumo
childDeal-in person gets basic points x 4Parent gets 2 basic points, 2 other children get 1 basic point each
parentDeal-in person gets basic points x 63 children each receive 2 basic points

Each payment amount will be rounded up to the nearest 100 points (rounded up to the nearest 10 points). If the child's tsumo rises, calculate the ``parent's payment amount'' and ``the payment amount per child'' separately and round them up. We do not round up after adding up the amount for 3 people. For example, if the basic score is 960 points, the child will round up 960 points to 1,000 points, and the parent will round up 1,920 points to 2,000 points, so the payment declaration will be ``1,000・2,000 (sen/nisen)''.

The order of calculation is "Calculation of basic points → Calculation of parent/child/rontsumo multipliers → Rounding up each payment amount to the nearest 100 points." If you round up the intermediate basic points of 960 points to 1,000 points first, the child's RON will be off to 4,000 points (correctly 3,900 points), so always round up to the final payment amount.

Compare pinfu, seven-paired child, closed handron, and sidero

The following four examples are conditions in which 4 players play, there is no home, no deposit, the winner is a child, and is not affected by rounding up and mankan. Yaku and han are only examples; dora is not included.

examplefu・hanbasic pointpayment point
peace・closed handtsumo20fu2han20×24=320400・700 points
seven pairs of children/ron25fu2han25×24=4001,600 points
peace・closed handron30fu1han30×23=2401,000 points
yakuhai pon・ron30fu1han30×23=2401,000 points

Heiwa tsumo is an exception to 20fu, and Nanatsuko is fixed at 25fu. Heiwa's closed handron adds closed handron 10fu to subbottom 20fu, and only Heiwa's 1 han is counted here. An example of poning yakuhai is 24fu by adding 4fu of 么 Nine tiles to 20fu, and 30fu by rounding up to the nearest 10fu. The score does not always go down when there is a vice, but the remaining yaku, han, and meld fu are counted again.

Calculate 30fu3han from the formula to the payment point

The basic point is “30 × 23+2 = 30 x 32 = 960.

conditionscalculationpayment
child ron960×4=3,8403,900 points
child's tsumo960 children and 1,920 parents rounded up individually1,000・2,000 points
parent ron960×6=5,7605,800 points
parent's tsumo960×2=1,920 each2,000 points all

For child ron, round up 960 x 4 = 3,840 to 3,900. For child Tsumo, the two children's 960 points are rounded up to 1,000 each, and the parent's 1,920 points are rounded up to 2,000 points, giving a total of 4,000 points. For parents, round up 960 x 6 = 5,760 to 5,800, and for relatives, round up each person's 1,920 to 2,000.

When checking against the score list, check not only the "30fu3han" column, but also the parent/child and ron/tsumo columns. The total amount received by tsumo includes rounding up of individual payments, so it may not match the value obtained by simply multiplying the base point by the total multiplier.

Understand Limit Hands by Basic Point Caps

Common limit hand categories in Riichi Mahjong are as follows. 5 Han is automatically a Mangan. Even with fewer than 5 Han, hands reaching 2,000 basic points (e.g., 3 Han 70 Fu or 4 Han 40 Fu) are also treated as Mangan. 4 Han 30 Fu yields 7,700 points for a non-dealer Ron (11,600 for a dealer), though some rules round this up to Mangan (Kiriage Mangan). Kazoe-yakuman (counted yakuman), Kiriage Mangan, and Double Yakuman vary depending on local rules.

Authenticity and deposit will be processed after normal win points

The real home is the display that increases with the parent's consecutive home and current situation, and the deposit is the 1,000 point sticks that were put on the table with the riichi declaration. Neither increases han fu or basic points themselves. First, establish the regular payment point, then add the home portion to the payer, and finally process who will receive the deposit.

As an example of a named rule, in the M League, each deal-in player adds 300 points for Ron, and 100 points for each 3 Tsumo players. For 2 authentic 40fu3han and child ron, 600 points will be added to the usual 5,200 points, and the deal-in person will pay 5,800 points. If there is one more deposit, the winner will receive 1,000 points from the table. We do not charge the deal-in party for the amount deposited.

For home/deposit/multiple wins, table rules take precedence

The additional amount of the home, the recipient of the deposit, the home/deposit at the time of double ron, and the parent's consecutive rental conditions will change depending on the rule set. Please do not generalize the examples in this article to other tournaments or services, and please check the rule list before matching.

Common mistakes and desk checks

  • Treat dora as yaku and think you can win the move without yaku
  • overlook closed handron, tsumo, and waiting fu
  • Mistaking the fu of dark and light, Jiu and Zhongzhang tiles.
  • Mix up the payment ratio between parent and child, ron and tsumo
  • Each tsumo payment is not individually rounded up to the nearest 100 points.
  • Mix the real place and deposit in the middle of calculating the win point

8 items before moving point sticks

  1. Is the win shape completed and there is at least one yaku other than dora?
  2. Isn't Yaku's han number going down, whether it's closed hand or viceroy?
  3. Do the numbers of dora, red dora, and back dora match the counting conditions?
  4. Were exceptions such as peace tsumo and seven pairs of children divided first?
  5. Did you add the light and dark of triplet/quad, nine tiles, pair, and waiting fu?
  6. Who wins: parent or child, Ron or Tsumo?
  7. Has the final payment amount been rounded up to the nearest 100 points for each person?
  8. After determining the normal score, did the court and deposition process follow the rules?

When recording the final score or profit and loss, separate the win points and the points after the end of the game. The order of payment ismahjong's profit and loss calculation methodYou can check it here.

Frequently asked questions about mahjong score calculation

Do beginners need to memorize the entire scoreboard?

There is no need to memorize the entire table from the beginning. Prioritize the frequently occurring forms of 30fu and 40fu, the divisions beyond mankan, and the differences between parent and child and ron and tsumo, and say the conditions and calculation formulas out loud when drawing tables. The first step is to be able to return to the answer from the equation.

Can you win with just dora?

I can't. dora is an additional element that increases the number of han of established yaku. Check at least one yaku other than dora, such as riichi, yakuhai, tanyao, etc., and then count dora.

Can I round the total tsumo points to the nearest 100 points?

The payment amounts for each parent and child are rounded up to the nearest 100 points, rather than the total. Therefore, there may be a difference between the total of individual payments and the value obtained by multiplying the base point before rounding by the total multiplier.

When is it not necessary to calculate fu?

If the classification of Mankan or higher is confirmed with 5 han or more, fu calculation is not necessary to calculate the final score. Exceptions to fu must be memorized separately, such as Shichitsuko being fixed at 25 fu and Heiwa Tsumo being treated as 20 fu.

When will you add authentic and riichi bars?

After confirming the normal payment points from HAN・FU. There are differences in the rules regarding the amount of additional money and who receives the deposit in the event of multiple wins, so check the rules for that table.

Summary

When calculating mahjong points, it will be difficult to get confused if you fix the order of parent and child, rontsumo, han, fu, basic points, and payment. At first, check the score table for 30fu, 40fu and Mankan or higher, which are often seen, and for complicated moves, input the conditions one by one and check them. Please check the items that have different rules for each table before matching.
